Furniture for healthcare is one of the core businesses for the studio. This project is a good example of what that can be about. This kind of folding stool has been around a couple of thousand years so it’s hardly an innovation. However, we did find one new context where its well proven function and construction fit perfectly — as a visitor’s stool in healthcare environments. People with dementia illnesses are often very sensitive to change. If a chair is moved from its “right place” the world trembles.
The stool Kompis prevents that. The visitor picks a stool from a hook in the hallway before entering the living area. Nothing changes except the mood of grandpa getting a hug from a grandchild. The handles of the stool, with their reference to travel bags, enhance the notion of someone visiting.
