BRIO is one of those brands that is a part of our cultural legacy. I guess that every child raised in Sweden has played with the company’s wooden railway or the black glossy dog with its swinging tail ending with that yellow little ball. So, needless to say, the joy and honour Matti Klenell and I felt when commissioned was endless. As a product designer in Sweden this was, to my mind, a dream assignment.

Our aim was to stay true to the core of the brand — long lasting quality products that could be used by generation after generation. The bed that grows with the child was launched in 2010. Sadly BRIO suffered hard from competition of low cost products and was sold to a competitor in 2015. The new owners unfortunately had no interest in furniture.
